Five Things: Lost Work Perk-Outfit of the Week-Creepiest Thing I’ve Heard-Book Review-Best Wedding Idea Ever

The Work Perk I Lost. So if you’ve been following my social media, then you know I have work perks, like a flexible start time and ambiguous (yea, let’s call it that) dress code to name a couple. But I also had another bonus: my own parking space.

Five Things: 7 April 2019

It’s been a minute, but here you go.

  1.  Unpopular Opinion. This created quite a stir on Twitter, especially among New Yorkers – even NY Democrat and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer chimed in. I am totally down with this. More surface area to put more cream cheese on. If you like a denser bite, then put two slices together, but you still have more cream cheese. I like the control this slicing affords you.

7 Style Rules: Clashy, Baggy, and Ugly

Warning: Read no further if (A) you are unable to withstand confused looks and unsolicited comments such as “WTF?” and/or (B) you are a single woman hoping to attract men. Forreal. Much of my style sense can be summed up in two words: jarring and man-repellant. Maybe two more: Not Pretty. If Not Pretty is your steaze, then keep reading.

Miles Go Down, Miles Go Up

My little calf injury last month left me with enough time on my hands to get into a some spending trouble. Meaning, as my running miles decreased, the airline miles on my credit card went north. I’m not one to usually buy this much in a short period of time, but since I did, here’s my loot!

Ash is a favorite brand of mine, and so it turns out also for a certain human rights barrister/celebrity wife. Love these sneakers that are dressed up with the slight heel. Amal’s are a higher heel, but I dig comfort. Hmmm, let me get this straight. So we’re both married to silver foxes, both social justice activists, and now we both have the same shoes? Stop copying my life, Amal Clooney!

Seriously, if she starts running marathons, I’m taking out a restraining order.

I’m going on vacation a few days after the marathon, and I wanted some holiday shoes. Something that was comfortable but stylish, traditional but edgy; I think these updated espadrilles are spot-on. I mean, look at the mix in textures, from the classic roped heel to the black leather upper finished with a thoroughly modern studded detailing. I mean, come ON. They’re Ash, again — I have four pairs.

As a follow-up to my mantra post, I went and bought japa beads from the Krishna Store. The beads are handcrafted in Vrindavana, India, and I went ahead and bought a little bag to keep them in. Because miles. Anyway, isn’t the bag adorable? I mean, spiritual?

Back to materialism. Well, I didn’t purchase these myself. Husband gifted them to me to mark a particular milestone, but since they added to his airline miles and California is a community property state, I’ll sneak them in here. Besides, these Warby Parker’s are gorgeous. Linwood style. Luxe.

Of course, any spending splurge is not complete without a book purchase (or three or five). This time it wasn’t for pleasure, unless you enjoy studying logic problems and test-taking, as I bought the LSAT prep book. Now I’m not saying that I’m taking the LSAT, but I’ve been thinking about what’s next for me, and I can’t believe I’m thinking of doing the whole law thing, but I might. I might! I at least bought the prep book and have it marked on my calendar to begin studying in June. Eeks. Again, Amal’s and my life, so intertwined.

These additions took the sting out of being injured a little bit; at the very least, it kept me occupied. I’m very much enjoying my latest purchases, but between you and me, these weren’t the miles I had hoped to rack up.
